Invisalign In Port St. Lucie

If you or your child have put off getting orthodontic treatment due to not wanting to wear metal brackets and wires on the teeth, we have good news for you. ION Orthodontics in Port St. Lucie, Florida offers patients the option to complete treatment using Invisalign clear plastic aligners instead if they are a good candidate.

Invisalign is the name of the company that manufacturers the retainers and is a leader in the orthodontic industry. To learn more about this option and whether it’s right for you, please schedule a consultatION with Dr. Marcela Radojevic, or Dr. Rad for short, as soon as possible.

How It Works

During your consultation at ION Orthodontics, Dr. Rad takes a digital impressION of your teeth and gums to help plan for your series of aligners. She will do everything possible to provide you with this treatment optION if that is your treatment preference of choice. While other dentists may have told you that you can’t get Invisalign because your case is too complicated, Dr. Rad is highly trained in clear aligner therapy treatments and is able to successfully treat many complex cases that many clinicians may feel are to complicated for Invisalign. If Invisalign truly won’t work for you, she is happy to discuss other orthodontic treatment options.

After taking the digital impressION and x-rays, Dr. Rad sends this informatION to the Align laboratory for processing. Dr. Rad takes the time to properly diagnose and treatment plan the movement of teeth in order to ensure successful outcomes and predictable movements.

Each aligner gently puts pressure on your teeth to move them into a better positION. You may feel some mild discomfort on chewing at first just as you would with regular braces. But the great news is you don’t have to deal with poking wires, difficulty brushing and flossing, or the esthetic concerns people sometimes suffer from with traditional braces. Each new aligner accounts for the movement of the previous one and comes in a slightly different shape to fit over each row of teeth. The most important aspect of Invisalign is that it allows you to live your lifestyle, while also being overseen by a professional periodically with quick and easy monitoring visits during treatment.

While every patient experiences different results, the average time from the start to finish of wearing aligners is 4 months for minor tooth movements to 24 months for someone who needs full correctION of their bite and alignment. Additionally, the typical patient wears between 20 and 30 different aligners throughout the course of treatment.  Keep in mind that your treatment time and number of aligners worn may be significantly higher or lower depending on the current conditION of your teeth.

Benefits of Choosing Invisalign clear aligner therapy

Patients prefer Invisalign due to the ability to remove them when necessary. However, we urge you to keep them in at least 22 hours a day for the best and fastest results. You can remove them for eating and brushing your teeth, but you should plan to wear them the rest of the time. If you must keep them out for a social event or another reason, be sure to put them back in again as soon as you get home.

Don’t forget to rinse off each Invisalign clear plastic aligner each time you brush your teeth to remove any food particles that may have gotten stuck underneath it. Our practice will provide you with a separate toothbrush to lightly scrub the aligner to ensure that it stays clean.

The ability to disguise orthodontic treatment is another of the main reasons that patients opt for Invisalign. This can be especially important for adults in professIONal roles who want to straighten their teeth but didn’t have the opportunity to wear braces as a child or teenager.

The name Invisalign comes from the fact that it’s hard for other people to even see that you’re wearing an aligner. They are made from clear and durable plastic, which means even those sitting close to you may not be able to detect the aligners. It’s nearly impossible from a distance or photos. Here are some other benefits to consider:

  • The ability to remove your aligners when brushing and flossing your teeth makes it much easier to tend to your oral hygiene than if you had traditional metal and wire braces. You also don’t have to worry about accidentally breaking anything while trying to thread dental floss through brackets and wires or when eating.

  • You can eat whatever you want! No food restrictIONs!

  • Invisalign is more comfortable for the cheeks and lips than traditional braces. No poking wires and no broken bracket emergencies. The aligners feel soft inside of your mouth, and you never have the sensatION of wires poking you or brackets on your teeth.

  • Invisalign is a great optION for patients who grind their teeth at night as the aligners help to prevent further enamel wear

  • Many people who have special events coming up such as a wedding or special birthday party opt to use Invisalign to gradually straighten their teeth without interfering with special event photography.

  • Tooth movements can be customized in the software so it is easy to work around implants/bridges or other existing dental work as well as teeth that have shorter than average roots. Remember that you will need to wear retainers after you discard your last aligner.

Be Sure to Get Your Invisalign Treatment from a Licensed Orthodontist

The incredible popularity of Invisalign means that some people and businesses have tried to profit by offering treatment by mail. This is not a consumer product that you can simply buy online. You need an examinatION from a qualified orthodontist as well as supervisION of your treatment. Your teeth and oral health are too important to risk.
